Who We Are
The National Communication Authority (NCA), established by National Communication Act 2012, is the government agency mandated to regulate the Telecommunication and ICT sector of the Republic of South Sudan. This includes ensuring only genuine and approved telecommunication equipment and devices are imported, traded and operational in the country.
Inaugurated in June 2015, the Authority is charged with facilitation and development of the Telecommunications sector through creating, implementing and regulating essential policies to enable various service providers to compete equally throughout the country.
The Authority is mainly responsible for promotion of easy access to information by the citizens of South Sudan; information protection and data privacy; monitoring operations of licensees to ascertain conformity to the stipulated standards of quality, and compliance with license terms and conditions, including regulatory laws and directives.
Other responsibilities include:
- Licensing and regulating the provision and supply of telecommunications services nationwide.
- Providing guidelines on which telecommunications equipment meet required standards before connection to the national communications network.
- Availing guidelines and standard specifications for provision of communications services.
- Managing the use of the radio frequency spectrum in South Sudan.
- Regulating tariffs related to communications services.
- Safeguarding the interests of communications service providers and consumers.
